History

Putto Design Ltd first began its operation in 1991 under the name Putto & Co. in London, UK. The practice takes its name from a young architect, Putto Chiu, who arrived at the capital in 1990 to join Percy Thomas Partnership Ltd., one of the biggest architectural firms in the United Kingdom; during which he had participated in projects in Scotland, Wales and England.

In 1991, while continue practising under Percy Thomas Partnership Ltd. in a part-time capacity, Putto & Co. was set up to take on several commissions of residential projects in the Regent's Park and St John's Wood areas.

Putto then joined Kenneth Armstrong Associates to work on the competition winner project, Maison du Japan in Paris.

To fulfill his interest in art and design, Putto further read a postgraduate degree in the world renowned Central Saint Martins School of Art and Design, before arriving in Hong Kong to join the reputable Wong Tung & Partners Ltd. where he spent his apprenticeship in the mid-80's; involving in numerous projects, including The Hong Kong Park, Pamela Youde Hospital, Telford Garden Office & Commercial Extension, Tsing Yi Station and the Tsing Yi Commercial Retail Development, to name a few.

In late-90's, when Putto was working under the talented architect, Joanlin AU, he was appointed director; and both got together to found JA Design & Consultancy Ltd. Putto later helped in expanding the company through a joint venture with David C Lee Surveyors Ltd. to form JADL Limited. Having brought the company to a firm footing Putto left JADL Limited in 1999 and went back to his root to develop Putto & Associates Ltd, later known as Putto Design Ltd. Office of the practice was opened in 2000 and is located in the heart of the North Point district.
